Caribbean Cruise: Day 3

September 4, 2012
Cozumel, Mexico
Tracy woke up early this morning - I got up about an hour later.  After getting ready for the day, we went to breakfast in the buffet area.
It was a beautiful sunrise!  The ship on the horizon is the Carnival Triumph - it had been paralleling us all night.  This is the ONLY other cruise ship we saw on our entire trip!!

The Carnival Triumph docking beside our ship.

Cozumel is a VERY flat island!!!

After breakfast, we got our stuff together for the day and headed off the ship.  The ship had docked in Cozumel, Mexico around 9:00 a.m.  We located where we will meet for our tour.  We still had about an hour, so we went through some of the shops.

They have set up quite an area where the ships dock... entertainers, shops, food, etc!

LOVE the view!!!

At 10:15 a.m., we met for our tour of the day.  Miguel was our guide.  We boarded our bus and drove through town.

Our first stop was the Pee Pee Station (seriously)!

Bananas...

The agave plant that they produce Tequila from...

We saw a replica of some Mayan homes...

Stone that crushes the agave in order to make Tequila.  We had a Tequila tasting party - we tried about 6 different kinds - very, very yummy stuff!!  Very expensive, though, so we didn't buy any to bring home.

Our next stop was the San Gervasio - an archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization.  The ruins were once a hub of worship of the goddess lx Chel, deity of the moon, childbirth, fertility, medicine, and weaving. Pre-Columbian Maya women would try to travel to San Gervasio and make offerings at least once in their lives.  The park is a wildlife refuge and the local iguana population has become quite habituated to humans.  (Wikipedia)

The iguanas were HUGE!!!

After the ruins, it was on to the beach for a little while.

The water was gorgeous but the beach was a tad bit on the small side - rather disappointing!!  But we made due - we went to an even tinier beach right beside this one to the left of the pier in the photo.  We had it to ourselves (good thing because one more person at the beach would have made it crowded)!!

We enjoyed the beautiful water!!  This picture actually encompasses the entire beach area...  It was a gorgeous day!

Iguana enjoying the view also...

Our tour bus dropped us back at the pier.  We went to the shops again to purchase a few things and then headed back to the ship.

Leaving Cozumel...

We ate dinner at the grill - they had fabulous burger and fries!!!
Our view during dinner...

After dinner, we walked laps around the ship again - 1 mile.  We got some dessert and took it to our room.  Dessert and reading on the balcony - nice!  Gorgeous sunset again!

At 8:00 p.m., we went to the lobby and learned to dance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" - that was a LOT of fun!!  Tracy even joined in so we don't have photos.
After Thriller, we went to hear the comedian again. This was an adult only show - bad language and sexual references - liked the family show the other night a whole lot better!
We ended up in Billies Bar again listening to Jordan for a sing-a-long for a couple of hours and enjoying some drinks.  Finally, we headed to our room a little after midnight.
What a fun-filled day!!
