2010 Sleepy Hollow Vacation: Day 1 & 2

September 2009- Tracy was asked by his new employer to design a banner for their Haunted House fundraiser. They had seen on his resume that he used to be a commercial artist/illustrator. He agreed to do it and it came out fabulous! It was a collage of all things Halloween. It included the Headless Horseman. Well, he became fascinated with the headless horseman and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and started researching Washington Irving and all things associated with the writing of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In doing so, he decided that we needed to take a vacation to the town of Sleepy Hollow, NY and that we needed to do it on Halloween. So that was our fall vacation this year.

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010:

We left on vacation around 3:00 p.m. I was hoping to have left around noon but Tracy had some things he needed/wanted to get done first. We stopped just shy of South Bend, Indiana for dinner at McDonalds. We stopped around 11:00 p.m. and spent the night at the Super 8 in Wauseon, OH.

Sunday, October 24th, 2010:

We got up around 8:30 a.m. and were on the road by 9:00 a.m. We stopped a little while later to get breakfast and fill up on gas. Our drive today took us across Ohio,

Pennsylvania,

New Jersey, and into New York.

The Fall colors came and went as we drove along. Sometimes, they were gorgeous. Unfortunately, the sun did not come out fully to light up the changing trees.

We drove I-80 almost the entire way today. People around us drove like idiots!! Most went at least 15 mph over the speed limit! It was crazy! We also saw at least 20 dead deer along side the interstate. Luckily, we never saw a live one...

We ate dinner at Cracker Barrel in Bloomsburg, PA. We are staying for a good part of our vacation at the Super 8 in Nyack, NY - about 1/2 hour from New York City!
