We had to get up at 2:30 a.m. and leave the hotel by 3:30 a.m.!!! The hotel had a breakfast bag for us to take along. We arrived at the airport in good time, checked in, checked in our luggage, and went to our gate. We still had a bit of a wait, so Brenda and I walked around the few shops that were there.
Our flight took off at 6:15 a.m. and was 2 1/2 hours long from Athens to Frankfurt, Germany. Brenda and I were able to sit by each other. They served us breakfast. We actually arrived in Frankfurt about 30 minutes early. This was good because we had to go through passport control and then security again. By the time we got to our gate, we only had about 1/2 hour to wait before boarding. We were able to sit together. I had the window seat on these first two flights - I love the window seat!!
This leg of the flight was from Frankfurt to Chicago. They served us lunch and then a light snack. The flight was a LONG 9 hours!!! We had a couple of wee babes crying!!
We arrived in Chicago with two hours before our next flight to St. Louis. We had to go through passport control and then get our luggage. We took our luggage through customs and then had to drop it back off so it could be loaded onto our flight. We took a tram to a completely different terminal and had to go through security AGAIN! This process went very smoothly and quickly - Brother David said it was the fastest he had ever seen - YEA!
We had about a 40 minute wait until our last flight home. Brenda and I enjoyed a yummy pretzel while waiting. Finally they called us to board... we got on the plane only to discover this particular plane could not make it to its next destination after St. Louis (Durango, CO). So we had to unload and go back inside while they found a different plane. We finally took off about 25 minutes late.
This trip to Greece and Turkey was fabulous!!! I had the best time ever!
